Happy New Year!

It is pretty clear why I"ve not started a blog in the past, yes? So hard to keep up!

We finished out the party season in CDS Sunday with a Snowflake Ball. Joaquin Gustav provided the music for the first hour, and many of his Tango Time group came to see a new venue for him. The Schloss Neufreistadt makes a great place for a winter ball, but the lag was prohibitive for several people. Hopefully, a remodeling of the schloss will take care of that for future parties.

Being a CDS event, of course there were politics. I hope it wasn't too off putting to our guests... I don't quite understand how being a "CDS" party makes rudeness okay. Maybe there are other reasons I've not written in a blog about such things!

Other events... the Saturnalia party which was scheduled for the Roman Sims was held on December 17th with music provided by Naftali Torok, in her Amphitheater in Alpine Meadow. And the Skating Party on St Nicks day earlier in the month. I'll try to upload photos.

Election season is upon us and we are in a bit of chaos right now. I will refrain from commenting about chaos, and simply wish you a happy new year.

Winter comes to CDS!

On the first of December, the snow started to fall and magically turned the Alpine and Roman sims to a winter wonderland. As the weather continues to get cooler, the rivers are freezing and we may even get some ground cover in Al Andalus! It's a nice change, though it seems we just got all our autumn trees out!

We had a fun celebration of Snow in Neufreistadt and Alpine Meadow on Sunday, December 6 and there is a nice Christkindlmarkt set up, along with a lovely tree decorated with CDS ornaments...There are even some sporting the Al Andalus flag.

The ski slopes are also open and Euterpe Zagoskin has come back to our sims with her excellent skis. Take time to try them out!

Holidays are very busy for us in both first and second life; any chance we get to spend with our friends is a gift I hope none of us overlook!

Happy December!

Things that fill Wednesday

Phase one of the new land sale process is complete with five happy new land owners. They will be happier yet if we get a retroactive price break into the CDS program, but even if not, these are all good moves. There are still some great parcels available that haven't been on the market for a long time, and we'll be setting them to "yellow map" much to my chagrin, this week. I don't like yellow map sales in a community because all that sells is land. It overlooks the chance to connect with people, find the things you have in common, introduce them to others who are like minded.

Last night at the Winters Kanto concert, I spoke to a very nice gentleman who was quietly listening to the music and sitting off to the side, not dancing. He said he didn't think anyone else even knew he was there. The more we talked, as happens with many people I meet, the more I found to like about him. And of course, I kept thinking, oh he should meet so and so, or I bet he'd like x... already plugging him into the community in my mind. It isn't that I think CDS is so perfect, or even for everyone. It's just that I know it is perfect for some people, even if they haven't figured that out yet. And I sometimes just want to fix it!

No, I didn't try to sell the poor fellow land, though I know just the right parcel for him... I'll give him a chance to discover for himself. He is in our group now, and he's smart. He'll find his way.

Today I'm going over to Beta Business Park to hear my friend Gwyneth Llewellyn debut in voice! She's talking about e commerce in virtual worlds. Then later Metanomics has some experts in behavioral science speaking about the potential of counseling in Second life. Both of these ideas make my mind tickle with curiosity. And that is really why I spend so much time in Second Life. I'm truly not all that ticklish!

Mind boggled....

There are so many things going on in CDS right now it is hard to keep up. Add a holiday, rl obligations, and work crises, and the chaos gets just juicy enough to keep me up even more hours!

The Land sale in CDS is what has most of my attention right now. Last month, CDS Chancellor Jamie Palisades changed my position from Public Information Officer to Deputy Chancellor with specific responsibility for citizen & land development. I don't care much about titles, but I am one of those people that needs new things to think about on a regular basis. I also love meeting new people in SL and helping them find their way. And okay,I'm a confessed land slut. I can't own it all, so it makes me happy to be able to help others experience the smug satisfaction of rezzing on ones own land. I know it should make no sense to feel this way about prims and particles, but there you go.

What is making the process crazy is mostly tradition. CDS has adhered to its original pricing structure, even as the walls of the SL tower of land have begun to crumble. The occasional sale of inventory land to someone new supports the notion that our land is just worth more... but the result of this thinking is the current backlog of inventory of about 25 parcels of land. To move that land into the hands of people who will do something with it and join our community, we are suggesting that our prices be discarded and that the land sell for 0 lindens.

It is Halloween week. I"m just hoping the land ideas don't result in this for poor rose!

Burning words...

Last year we did a fun build for CDS at Burning Life, because it was right in the middle of our Oktoberfest. We had a pg parcel and made "Oktoburnfest" complete with fancy graphics scripts and colored prisms with prizes hidden inside, a ferris wheel, carousel and special magic courtesy of Jamie Palisades. This year we got major frowns from BL at anything that appeared at all commercial... no logos, no landmarks, etc., so I decided to play with something on my own.

Now everyone knows I'm no builder, though I understand and can use most of the SL tools. I know many people are in Second Life for that creative aspect, and to them I cheer heartily. I just don't have the patience for the detail that is necessary to separate quality from thrown together.

But I do have an ease with words, and I love meeting and chatting with new people... sooo... I created a "magnetic poetry" type build. About 150 movable word tiles, spread across a black canvas out on the Playa... which I hope passersby will stop and form into poetry. When I go there and find them, it's like Christmas morning. I copy them over into my photoshp file and have the ones I've found so far framed and surrounding the canvas. The really fun part is that no one is leaving names.. no credit asked for. Sort of like Graffiti art i guess! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Burning%20Life-HIgh%20Rock/92/159/25

Anyway, stop by if you get a chance, leave me your own special combinations, or just enjoy what others have written. There is a circle around the campfire, and I'll be there from time to time, hoping to meet others who just enjoy the creative aura that is Burning Life.

Oh yes, i'm doing an Art Pathfinders tour too, and serving as a greeter, and well, :: blushes:: I even made a porta potty! I really like working WITH people and being a part of a project/team... lately my time in CDS has all been solitary. It makes me boring and depressed, and that's just not my nature. So ... come and light fires with me!

CDS work today:

Today we began work on the Al Garnata Art Enclave. To make room, I transferred the books from the Ancient Classics Library to El Tesoro, and started cleaning out excess prims. All the changes we make will be in compliance with the Alex Lib group standards for libraries, and will do a better job of transitioning the Themes from Roman to Andalucian. I'm excited about the group working on this with me.

Also turned over the Metanomics programs to Solomon Mosely. Sol has been trying to find his niche in CDS for some time now, and this might just be perfect. Thanks to Cindy Ecksol for her fine service this past year.

Continuing to prepare a report on land issues.
